Arlene Bertellotti - School Principal

Arlene Bertellotti has been a member of Sacred Heart Parish for 25 years and lives in Saratoga. After eight years as principal at St. Charles School in San Carlos, in the summer of 2004, Mrs. Bertellotti returned home to Sacred Heart Saratoga where she had been a teacher for twenty years.

A San Jose native, Arlene Bertellotti, earned her teaching degree at San Jose State University and her Masters in Education from Santa Clara University.  She holds an Administrative Service Credential from the State of California.

She feels the value of a Catholic school education comes from building a strong sense of community, by working with students to develop all aspects of their lives – academic, emotional, social, physical, as well as a strong foundation in their sense of faith and moral development.  However, “This can only be accomplished by partnering with parents and working toward these goals together.”

Throughout her career, Mrs. Bertellotti has been partnering well with parents and implementing enrichment programs such as Learning Lab, allowing small group instruction and Movement Lab, developing cognitive ability through the use of large motor skills. She developed Authors’ Faire Day and Community Read-In to promote literacy.  She also designed the social studies curriculum for lower grades that features simulations of Colonialism called Colonial Day.

As a Catholic educator, Arlene Bertellotti, strives to develop the values and morals necessary to help children become strong, caring adults ready to sand-up for what is right and just in the world today.  "Respectful behavior seems to have diminished in our secular world.  It is our challenge as Catholic educators to encourage respect for self, and others.  Shared values among parents and educators are reinforced in a Catholic school environment.  Bombarded daily by less desirable aspects of contemporary culture, our children can easily lose site of their parent’s values.  Ideally, our Catholic school system supports the teachings of the home, provides a safe, nurturing place for education, and serves as extended family for the child.”

“I believe that when the moral foundation is sound, an academic program will be successful.  A solid academic program will provide the tools necessary for the fast paced, ever changing technological world these students will be facing.”

Arlene Bertellotti has prepared her students well over the years.  She takes delight in the many students who return to tell her of their success and credit her for their love of reading and the skills she helped develop in them early in their lives.
